The Renaissance era is what many perceive to be the breaking point in which art goes beyond leaps and boundaries to form many new styles, ideas, and perception of art. Centered in Italy, art in the Renaissance was driven by Humanism. It was focused heavily on the individual self rather than symbolic figures, or higher beings. As the world advanced more, specifically in the scientific field, this was portrayed in the art work of the time. Many people became skeptical of a "God, or gods" which controlled our fate; rather many believed that we can control our own destiny.
Many prominent art figures derive from the Renaissance era. People like Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci. Famous works such as da Vinci's
Mona Lisa, and
Last Supper, as well as
The School of Athens by Raphael, all produced in the movement. We admire these artists for the initiative, in capturing the embodiment of the essence of Antiquity through art.
