Thr Persians attempted four times to conquer the Greek using the battles of Marathon, Thermopylae, Salamis, and Plataea. Persian was led by Darius I. He was seeking to secure his empire from further revolts and from the interference of the mainland Greeks, Darius decided to conquer Greece and to punish Athens and Eritrea for burning the Sardis.
In the first battle, which is the battle of marathon, the Persians were defeated by the Athenians and the Plataeans. Thud, making the Persians lose their Greek allies. Darius then began planning to completely conquer Greece, but he died in 486 B.C. Due to this, the responsibility was passed on to his son Xerxes. He personally led the second battle. He assembled one of the largest armies. Persian arrives on the Greek shore with perhaps 2,000,000 men and Greeks has only 5,000 men, including spartans, phocians, and Locrians and it was under the command of the spartan king, Leonidas. When Xerxes got mad, conquering the Greeks was no longer his goal. He wanted them wiped out entirely. The following year, Greeks went on the offensive, defeating the Persian army at the Battle of Plataea, and ending the invasion of Greece.
