Spartacus
I am very interested with Spartacus and the slave revolts throughout Rome (111-71 BC).  Spartacus was not his real name, for it was given to him by his Dominus in Capua known as Quintus Batiatus.  Spartacus was of Thracian descent and was expected to fight for Legatus Glaber who was a military commander for the Roman Republic, but soon defied his offer.  Due to his refusal, Glaber had captured him and forced him to fight in the Gladiator fights in Capua.  Although Spartacus was expected to die, he managed to defeat all his opponents in the arena.  Quintus had seen the fire in him that day and decided to purchase him.  Soon he would regret that act due to Spartacus and many other gladiators such as Crixus leading a slave revolt due to the oppression they faced as slaves of Rome.
